A group of brilliant minds discovers how to make the SevenSenses Action Research Academy a great succes, for the first edition \u00e1nd for the future! Ruud Koornstra (sustainable entrepreneur and founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tendris.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tendris<\/a>), Sabijn Timmers (Board of Directors, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.triodos.nl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Triodos Bank<\/a>), Andr\u00e9 Bolland (founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thediscoverycompany.nl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Discovery Company<\/a>) and\u00a0Paul Iske (Professor of Innovation and president\u00a0of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.briljantemislukkingen.nl\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institue for Brilliant Failures<\/a>)\u00a0did a Thinking 720<i>\u00b0<\/i>\u00a0brainstorm led by Mieke Boogert of <a href=\"https:\/\/serendipityhub.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Serendipity Hub<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>I realize I have to be careful in choosing the word \u2018brainstorm\u2019 though,\u00a0as Paul starts the session with:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cbrainstorm is for people without\u00a0brains, cause they have space for a storm\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Sooo \u2026 we\u2026 had a\u2026 brain\u00a0<em>exchange<\/em>? Anyway. The session\u00a0starts and I&#8217;m excited and nervous. How great is it to have these beautiful minds brainst&#8230; <em>exchanging\u00a0<\/em>about my company SevenSenses?!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1829 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/seven-senses.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/image_00001-bijgesneden-300x232.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seven-senses.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/image_00001-bijgesneden-300x232.png 300w, https:\/\/seven-senses.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/image_00001-bijgesneden-16x12.png 16w, https:\/\/seven-senses.nu\/wp-content\/uploads\/image_00001-bijgesneden.png 406w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><b>Blocks game. But professional.<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Mieke puts a big block on the table and starts asking questions you wouldn&#8217;t expect. &#8220;<em>What&#8217;s your favorite place for holiday?&#8221; &#8220;Mars&#8221;<\/em> says Ruud, likewise unexpectedly. Another block. The four core words of SevenSenses! <em>&#8220;And now let&#8217;s make associations&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0says Mieke.\u00a0Associations between &#8216;action research&#8217; and &#8216;lion&#8217; &#8211; the animal Sabijn wouldn&#8217;t want to meet in the wild. The &#8216;academy&#8217; and &#8216;my children&#8217;. &#8216;Impact&#8217; and &#8216;Mars&#8217;. Weird! Later it turns out to be a great tool for out of the box thinking and unexpected ideas! A shuffle. Another block of limitations. Again new ideas. I&#8217;m dizzy. Then we become concrete and after the session I walk out of the room, flabbergasted.<\/p>\n<h2>Good news for the companies<\/h2>\n<p>Main conclusion: there are so many opportunities! Students and post-graduates have experienced the impact of Participatory Action Research (PAR) already in past SevenSenses Challenge editions, but what about the companies? PAR is a tool that can be applied in any setting, in any situation and could have great impact at so many different levels! PAR is so flexible that as soon as you get acquinted with it, you can apply it to anything on your path that could improve the happiness, quality, effectiveness and impact of your entire (work) community. From complete company reorganizations to the choice of the color of the new toilet seats.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Clumsy name?<\/h2>\n<p>That it works brilliantly for companies was no news. <em>\u201cBut how come we hardly hear companies about this if it is so impactful?\u201d<\/em>, we wondered. Is it the name? <em>Action <\/em>may refer too much (as in: wrongly) to activism, and <em>research<\/em> may refer to too much to academic, non-practical performance. Ok, ok. I agree, the inventor of Action Research wasn\u2019t the smoothest hype-name inventor (unless it was a hype name back in the forties). The good thing is, over time PAR has proven to fit in all kinds of different circumstances, so it can be applied in any way!<\/p>\n<h5><em>PAR\u00a0has nothing to do with activism, and you can make it as small or big as you want, scientific or practical.<\/em><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.7sens.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/image_00014-1024x765.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6084\" src=\"http:\/\/www.7sens.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/image_00014-1024x765-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"470\" height=\"351\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Bringing in great new insights from a \u2018different world\u2019<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cImagine the added value of the new knowledge and skills employees can bring in when they join the Action Research Academy!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>says Andr\u00e9 Bolland, founder of the Discovery Company. First of all, in two weeks, they can be the PAR expert of the company, improving all that could use a boost. Not only for a current issue, but all issues that may come in the future. Second, when joining the Long Track of the Academy, they can put PAR into practice in a different country and guide a Challenge team on the subject, as part of corporate social responsibility (in Dutch: maatschappelijk verantwoord ondernemen, MVO). Practical, intercultural experience from a totally different setting and using that -on top of the PAR skills- \u00a0for boosting in the company in it&#8217;s broadest sense.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Why not make PAR your core business?<\/h2>\n<p>As part of MVO\u2026 O dear. Ruud Koornstra, sustainable entrepreneur,\u00a0seems to be a bit allergic.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cthis should not be \u2018just\u2019 MVO, PAR should become their core business!!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Indeed\u2026 Why not make profit of the great impact you deliver to the world? Well, was our conclusion, let\u2019s start with MVO, let them deliver that great impact and see how that impact can be incorporated in the core business. <em>\u201cDammit, dare to dream big!\u201d\u00a0<\/em>so says Ruud.<\/p>\n<p>And that was just the tip of the iceberg.
