An online Professional Advanced Training (PAO) on ways in which employees of the municipality of Eijsden-Margraten can make working and office spaces COVID-proof.

Situation

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many employees of the municipality of Eijsden-Margraten started working from home. At the start of this Professional Advanced Training (PAO), it was still unclear how work and office spaces should be organized post-pandemic. The PAO aimed to facilitate employees in co-creating and implementing action plans that contribute to flexible work arrangements in an office setting that aligns with current times.

Three action plans emerged on the themes of ‘office and meeting’ and ‘the new way of working.’ For the ‘office and meeting’ theme, employees devised a new approach to office layout that better suits the current situation: organizing domains based on needs, independent of departments, such as a quiet domain, a meeting domain, creative domain, etc.

For the ‘new way of working’ theme, two action plans were developed, one focusing on facilitating remote work and another where employees make new agreements that align with the new way of working.

Impact

The action plans are currently underway. The creative domain has been set up primarily with existing items and serves as a breeding ground for new ideas around new domains where all employees are encouraged to participate.

New drawings have been made for setting up additional domains, budget has been allocated to continue the work, and new equipment has been purchased.

Additionally, the municipal employees have set up a meeting space, an internal relocation is underway, and quiet spaces will be created.

This PAO has contributed to reevaluating the design or housing concept in 2023 due to the various needs that have emerged.

In the coming months, it will become clearer how this further develops and what the employees’ experiences are regarding the impact.
