Even though the legal framework is in place to allow asylum seekers to work while waiting for a final decision, they face a lot of bureaucratic obstacles that make it almost impossible to enter the labour market
The Work Integration Project aims to increase accessibility to the labor market for asylum seekers in Sweden. This will lead to an increased participation and integration of asylum seekers in society.
Why
When you ask an asylum seeker what he or she needs most to be able to
integrate into society, he or she will probably answer that he or she needs a
job. Through employment they can more easily come into contact
with the new community, increase their language skills and build a new social
network. In addition, most asylum seekers would like to give something back
for society and see work as a good distraction from their daily
worries. It ensures that they are financially independent and therefore a less
heavy financial burden on the state.
How
Through Participatory Action Research, with the help of an international, multidisciplinary research team together with the local community research into the bureaucratic obstacles that asylum seekers face and in what ways we can remove or reduce them.
